We are not used to see ships the kind of SURANT's size, type and charm cruising the Great Lake.

There was a time when the only way for goods and persons to communicate from city to city was throught the lake.

 

SURANT was originally designed and built on the Ometepe island by locals carpenters. Today their "savoir-faire" has vanished, replaced by easier-to-maintain and built fiber glass pangas. She may be the only ship left from those times.

 

Solid and stable, wide and heavy, SURANT was designed to fullfil what was her original task: a cargo ship capable of transporting all sort of goods and harvests to the various cities and villages bordering the great lake.

Because of the perfectly adecuate design for the task she was designed for, SURANT had a certain elegance.

 

For many years. SURANT was left abandoned on a lost Ometepe island shore. Slowly but surely she was on her way to becoming irreversible wreck. At the beginning of 2014, what was left of her was rescued by a french arquitect and restored with the same wood and technics she was made of and built with. After many months and efforts, beginning of December 2014 SURANT was cruising again.

Today she add an exiting and completely different dimension for discriminating visitors to the lake, providing and an exclusive and intimate experience for all those who love to be on the water and old ship. Welcome aboard.
